Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici

July 2017
A few days to the weekend, we were 5 friends prepared for a weekend excursion. We did the route on a Saturday and the weather was especially good given the forecasts. To put the icing on the cake, that same day we could observe the tail of the Milky Way and be able to photograph it!

The National Park of Aigüestortes and Estany de Sant Maurici is the only Spanish national park located in the autonomous community of Catalonia.

It is the eighth national park in Spain in number of visitors.

It is located in the central part of the Pyrenees divided between four Pyrenean districts: the Alta Ribagorza, the Pallars Sobirà, the Pallars Jussà and the Aran Valley, in the province of Lérida, encompassing, in its central part, territory of the municipal terms of Espot and Valle de Bohí.

The geography of the park is high mountain because much of the territory exceeds 1,000 m above sea level, with peaks that exceed 3,000. The lakes of quaternary glacial origin abound.
